My Whitstable

I wanted to give people a little taste of what Whitstable has to offer. I find this place inspiring and kind of cute. I have attempted to compile some of the best shops and places along with some pictures for you to enjoy.Whitstable is a seaside town that is divided by the tourist and the local. I, as a local also love all things touristy so I feel I am a good commentator for the place. So, Whitstable is well known for it’s seafood, more famously it’s oysters. However the common misconception is that there is not a great deal more to consume other than the beach and good seafood. For people like me, who love all things vintage and pretty Whitstable is really quite up there with top shops for this. Harbour Street is the hub of all things cool in town. The main High Street is reserved for more functional shops and amenities.

This is Frank, this has to be my favorite shop in Whistable. It is a shop of dreams, and really is inspiring. It also has a lovely and very creative website that is well worth a look. www.frankworks.eu It sells an eclectic mix of British artists and crafters work all under the one roof. As it’s logo says “designed in Britain- made in Britain”. Frank sells gifty items from greetings cards and gift wrap to note books and pin badges. (see above) It also sells screen prints and art work, my favorite is the John Dilnot birds screen print. See www.johndilnot.com for more info and pictures.

Just a few shops down is the very lovely and very scrummy Sundae Sundae. Sundae Sundae is an ice cream parlor and general seaside store. Well, when I say general seaside store don’t be fooled into thinking that it is in any way ordinary. Even the smell when you walk in is anything but ordinary. The ice cream is divine, but the best bit about it is that you can have your scoops in a plastic boat, with additional paper sail. This is so exciting for those of us who don’t like cones, and tubs are just boring. It is so vintage and cute.

This picture is of Sundae Sundae, the above picture is a still from their lovely window display. As you can see the shop has a very cool hand painted mural above the sign, this is typical quirky Whitstable everything seems to link back to, or stem from art. They sell all sorts of lovely things that are very hard to resist. Ice cream delicatessen’s this good are hard to come by especially ones that you feel as though you are stepping back in time into.
